Horses, mansions, tea parties, and lies are twenty-year-old Hannah Taylor’s life. To others, her family and her relationship with Eric is perfect. But she knows the truth. She lives it.

After a fire takes her grandma’s life and kills her horse, Hannah’s immaculate life spirals out of control. Her father disapproves of her decision to run her grandma’s ranch instead of focusing solely on learning the family business; Animal Control brings her Argus, a mistreated horse that she can’t turn away even though she’s not ready for another horse; and her boyfriend, Eric Bennett, a world famous polo player, becomes possessive and authoritarian. Despite her best efforts to disguise it, Hannah grows wary of him.

Then, Leonardo Fernandes struts onto the polo scene. A cocky rookie with a messy life of his own, he’s drawn to Hannah and isn’t afraid of showing it, even when Eric makes it clear she is his and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Hannah suffers for Eric’s jealousy. The abuse only gets worse when Leo steals the title of best polo player in the world from Eric.

But the title isn’t enough for Leo. He wants Hannah too, and she can’t deny her attraction to him either. Somehow, she must find a way to break free from abusive Eric before he breaks every bone in her body.

My Thoughts:

Breaking the Reins turned out to be completely not what I expected it to. I love horses. That's the main reason I signed up for this tour. I obviously have got to pay more attention when reading back copy. I was surprised with this book. No, no, don't get scared immediately. I loved the book. However, Juliana has a mean streak to her. She completely turned out the whole novel upside down that most of the time I was reading it, I was dumbfounded. Struck completely speechless! This book is so good, you guys, you all should read it.

To start from the beginning, the book starts on a sad note bad ends on a happy one. Are you happy for that, just like I was? :) Never really is anything like it may seem. And that book proves it. The story and the characters are absolutely compelling. I have loved Hannah so immensely, admired her for all her strength (it is not easy going against your own family) and at times just wanted to wrap her in cotton candy and hide from the world. It takes serious guts to survive. And that’s exactly what she did. I don’t think her story is for the faint hearted, but I promise you, it is well worth reading. (Oh and pay attention not to chew all your nails :P.)

Hannah’s life may seem perfect at a first glance, but that is most certainly not true. It is all a lie. Everything just proves that people you should trust the most will most often hurt you the worst. We all know it, right, but no one is ever ready when it happens. However, there comes a certain hunk of a Brazilian male that will do anything he can to help Hannah, and help himself. His history is just a tad too much for Hannah that they got me scared there will not be the happy ending that I could see brimming from the first sentences and glances of this Brazilian. If I ever believed in love at first sight, then that was it. You have to read Breaking the Reins to see for yourself what story Juliana has brought us. Great buildup through the story, even better characters and lots of tense scenes, will certainly get you going. Love. Family. Disaster and lies. Cheating. Pain. Everything so beautifully woven together that you won’t ever be the same again. And you won’t regret reading Breaking the Reins.

While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. Thousands of miles away from her former home in Brazil, she now resides in Connecticut and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.
